In music class, we have been working hard learning about how music works. We have been focusing on two types of musical patterns, tonic patterns, and dominant patterns. These patterns help to give songs momentum and either a sense of rest or departure. Tonic patterns work to make the music feel at rest while dominant ones create motion. This motion generally wants to return to a state of rest by reaching another tonic pattern. We have been singing these patterns and playing them on our keyboards.
In addition to learning music fundamentals, we have been practicing singing songs, some of which will be on display during our spring concert! The year has been great and I am pleased with everyone's effort in music. We have had a lot of fun learning about what makes music work.
